My Feedback on classes Digipacks

Digipack Feedback

Below is the feedback that i gave to the 10 groups of our combined media classes.

Level 1 0-3 Level 2 4-6 Level 3 7-8 Level 4 9-10 Consider the following when peer assessing digipack. Levels and marks same as websites. - branding/synergy - images/photography - colour scheme/effects - themes - representations - typography - semiotics - band/artist image

Annika
Not the actual design for a digipack, needs six parts. Would probably go another photoshoot with similar location themes and a new outfit for the artist, so you have some different images to use in with the ones you already have.
Just needs to be done, clearly little effort has been put into the creation of this first draft.
Continuity of the name design and the difference in the colour of each name brings a nice contrast keeping the viewer looking across the pack.
3/10

AVA
The song/track list is a really cool idea, like black out poetry, really artsy and more physical than digital which is a nice touch. Also goes along with the trendy feel of the artist. The AVA picture with the name across the yes would be better if it was centred.
Obviously it is a work in progress, I would say it needs another photoshoot to offer more imagery to fill the pack and establish the artist more fully. Also clean up needs on some of the pack, like the AVA spelt out with keyboard keys, take away the straight edges to show the curved edge of the keys and then take away the obvious tiling lines from the images in the background. Spines are still needed and a CD design.
There is a continuity of the colour red and red tints across the digipack. And the effect on the front cover is really cool.

The spines are still need and small bits of text naming producers and the label etc. The song list needs to be more easily read and also some of the photos have clearly be squished to fit the mould of the digipack instead of actually cropping to a square. A small concern is that the images are also very different sides of the spectrum one side is nature and the other more urban, is this a continuity error?
The contrast of the chessboard style of white and then black and then white and so on is really cool. Also the black design details on the white squares and then the white on the black giving that indie artsy vibe and is also really professionally made. Continuity of typography style across the pack keeps that doodle-esk font type going.

Doesn’t look like it is cropped correctly to fit A4 size, too long, this could simply be fixed by working to an A4 size on Photoshop and cropping appropriately. The CD needs more development in it design. The picture of the trees seems to just be filler and don’t fit with the feeling of the artist. I think the font size in the thank you note is too big and just looks like filler again, needs design work around it if it is going to fit. Lastly shouldn’t the colour scheme be white like the website?
The name son all the spines have a blue bar behind the text, through the middle but on the one on the front cover there is no such line. Also the bars on some of the names seem to be thinner than others, on the right side. These are continuity errors.
What is good though is that there is a synergy, clearly seen, in all the outfits seen across the digipack. The typography is the same and fits the clean simplistic style of the artist. The grey colour is reflected across the whole pack except in the green tree picture.
7/10

Luella
Use the clone tool or healing brush at a low hardness on the creases on the black curtain to cover up the shadow created, to make it look that little bit more professional. The photos that are being used are really good and the rose graphics across the whole pack keep continuity and synergy of the mood that comes with the artist but then there is a picture in the top left of Luella written across it in black on a black dress (so it is nearly invisible) and then the flash for the picture was too bright so it has made the artist really pale which is a completely different mood for the digipack, also there are no rose designs or red on it.
The spines need more work; actually show the artists name and album title on them.
7/10

MYA
The fades on the spines look unprofessional, show that the spines are there with the artist name and the label/record company logo on the side instead. The CD design is cool, the images are really good – I like the raw kind of look, being on a more personal level with the artist but then there is the more professional portrait that brings about the feeling that you are still serious.
Don’t put a fade effect around the edge of the warning labels and record/producers text needed on the back cover.
8/10

Stellato
The front covers title font is too basic and the image used is very different to the others in that it is really bright and not trippy at all, reflection in a brightly lit room with a few LED’s is not trippy like the other photos. Another photoshoot is needed or a couple images need to be made to look more like the others by using Photoshop.
The firework image for the CD part doesn’t work like the firework image below it. Needs more explosion and smoke in a small space.
Spines are still needed. Bottom left images would maybe look good with three clones of the body.
6/10

Tori Lorento
Cd design is same with the front cover and the mirrored picture – that could be a good space for a thank you note. Picture in the top right is really bad needs top replaced with anything else, you can barely see the artist in it and you just see the big manor, which changes the mood of the pack.
The back cover /song list is good except for the poor job on the cut out of the artist, needs cleaning up on Photoshop. Spines are still needed.

7/10

Sempa
Cd part with all the bricks in a circle is cool edit. Some of the photo is a bit bad, boring imagery and composition, nothing interesting with the picture to begin with and then just sticking an effect that makes the viewer incapable of sight.
The effects on everything need to lowered slightly, I still want to see the artist to establish his look and brand so the synergy can be seen across everything.
Needs to show more clearly what is the front and back cover; what is the title? Where is the track list? Spines are still needed and I would say another photo shoot to get some more interesting photos, a close up portrait showing the moodiness of the artist as a rap star.

5/10

Heidi Holmes
Colour schemes is across the whole digiback showing continuity, bringing the synergy of a country traveller vibe.
Not sure about the shot of the feet, looking down at the leaves, takes away the professional outlook of it all, another picture of the artist would be good.
Spines need the artist name and album title.
